What can you and, can’t you, blog about?

Well, the sky opened up,

and we got a lot of snow,

 it’s,

very pretty.

The Habs won again,

two in a row.

I’m doing the wave!!

The subject of the day,

What can you and, can’t you, blog about?

I’m sure that most of us,

who have a blog,

that can be considered,

of a personal nature,

occasionally,

or even,

frequently,

debate with ourselves,

what is or isn’t,

appropriate.

I ask myself this question,

a lot,

I have even posted,

and then removed,

posts,

that I regretted.

I didn’t regret them,

for the feelings,

they expressed,

or even for the style,

everyone writes a boring post, once in a while

but,

for the possibility of someone,

being,

offended or hurt.

It goes without saying,

that my intention is,

Never,

to offend or hurt,

but,

I believe I have,

a few times,

and for this I say,

Mea Culpa.

Some people have therapists,

some people have confidantes,

some people have partners,

I have bookish butch.

Through bookish butch,

the blog,

soon to be a feature motion picture, coming to a theatre near you:-)

I have expressed first and foremost,

my love of books,

and their importance in my life.

I have also,

this is particularly true,

lately,

expressed the hopes and fears and pratfalls,

of, my tortured soul:-)

and maybe,

have gone to a place,

that is too personal.

Some people,

friends,

mostly,

have expressed,

concerns about this,

others,

respond very positively and tell me,

I should censure as little as possible,

that it is personal and visceral,

and that’s what they like.

Who is right?

I don’t know?

both?

Maybe.

All writing is subjective,

your truth,

your interpretation,

personal, not objective.

I am not a writer,

I am a woman,

a butch,

a blogger,

with a slightly fictitious persona,

I don’t write novels,

I read them,

I blog about them,

I don’t write and re-write,

and edit and re-edit,

I feel or think something,

I post about it,

it is my way,

this isn’t art,

 it’s life,

 and blogging.

I think that sometimes,

life is,

silly,

obsessive,

impudent,

reflective,

hurtful,

beautiful,

hopeful,

and over enthusiastic.

Yesterday, I asked you,

Do You Believe in Love at First Sight?

and today,

I ask,

What can you and, can’t you, blog about?

So,

come out of the shadows and tell me,

what you think,

Please.

Later girls,

BB

I am a bookish butch in my mid early fifties. I live in Montréal and always have. I used to run a small used bookstore. Reading keeps me sane. My latest jiggie is photography, book project in the works, living the dream

  1. I think it is really a purely subjective thing – we each need to create our own boundaries about what we do and don’t feel comfortable with sharing. When it comes to mentioning others, it’s how much you think they would mind, or if they would mind, and how much are you willing to push them if they do mind 🙂

  2. Well, to answer your direct question: I can blog about anything I want as long as it doesn’t identify who I am or where I live. Those are my own rules: I value the anonymity of my blog like nothing else. I suppose the only things I can’t blog about would be any conflicts I’ve had with the few real-life friends who read the blog, unless we’d already addressed it face to face, but luckily that’s rarely been a problem.

On a related note, I’ve been planning a real-life, real-name blog which I hope to launch this spring. Being Feral Geographer is very freeing when it comes to some subjects, and some projects, but it’s also limiting, because I can’t move beyond the screen without sacrificing my anonymity. I’d love to teach blogging workshops, and host blogger meet-ups, and generally get a chance to make connections outside of the computer. I just don’t want to do it as FG, or not right now at any rate. In my eyes, it takes guts to link your real name to your online existence. I think I’m ready to try it, though I’m trepidacious of putting that much of myself out there… And of the effort required to maintain two blogs! But hopefully it’ll be a rewarding adventure.

  3. I used to keep two blogs, one for “Me” and an edited version for my family who are uncomfortable around all things homosexual in nature. Then I realized my family don’t read my blog anyway and having two was a pain in the bung holio and so I stopped writing on one completely.
    I don’t blog about work.
I don’t blog about personal family things.
I used to not post photos of my sons, but now I do.
I used to try to avoid queer content, but I’m getting over it….
I used to only blog and comment under the name “lovesmukiwa” but I changed that today.
I’m in the process of still trying to define what my blog is about – it changes all the time.

  4. Honestly, I never thought about what I could or couldn’t blog about, until very recently. When I blogged about the death of a friend- it was to help me deal with it. That post put me in touch with a member of her family and I am grateful for that. It seemed to open a floodgate, and since then I feel pretty much everything is open as long as it doesn’t hurt or identify anyone. I don’t however, want to use it to settle scores or anything negative like that. It is very much a work in progress. Thanks for sharing, it helps to get different points of view.

  5. Well, worst case scenario, you write a personal post which implies criticism of the unpleasantness that goes on in your local lesbian community. This post is somehow discovered by one of the local lesbians who goes on to write an article about your thoughts on the subject (with directions to your blog) in the local lesbian newsletter that goes out to most of the lesbians in the very small country in which you live. And you then have to delete your entire blog because anyone who knows in real life you will easily recognise you from reading it.

    But that probably won’t happen.

    Probably.

    And if it does, you can always change your blog name and start a new one (-;
