New Year

It’s starting to feel,

like a new year,

dawning.

It even sounds like it,

around here,

my mom is listening to,

a new CD she received as,

a gift,

beautiful harmonic,

traditional,

Quebecois music,

nice,

happy and sad,

and,

all of the things,

that make up,

our past and our lives,

at the same time.

In traditional Quebecois,

or some would say,

French Canadian,

culture,

Christmas was a,

religious occasion,

of worship and yes,

a big meal,

after midnight mass,

Le reveillon,

but,

New Year’s was when,

people exchanged gifts,

and,

did much more,

partying,

but,

always with a very familial aspect,

for instance,

it was traditional,

to ask for and receive,

the blessing,

of your father

I am much too young, even in advancing middle age to have experienced that, my generation wasn’t brought up in the same piousness or docility or respect for authority, but, we have heard the stories.

Times have changed,

and,

traditions,

morphed,

into,

other things,

I believe most families,

get together at Christmas,

and,

New Year’s is  much more,

a friend time,

kind of thing,

or maybe that’s just,

my perception.

I like New Year’s,

but,

I don’t like big parties,

I like to spend the day,

quiet,

busy but,

not too busy.

For the last few years,

mom and I have,

a newish tradition,

we go to the movies,

we pick a movie,

that has definite advantages to,

being seen,

on a big screen,

with quality sound,

two years ago,

it was Tintin,

last year,

Les Miserables,

mom loves that musical so, so much,

this year,

she didn’t have a definite,

intention,

but,

since we are both,

cinephiles,

who rarely go to,

the cinema,

anymore,

I knew we could find,

something,

smart and entertaining,

to agree on,

I have really desperately,

been wanting,

to see

Tells the story of,

a week in the life of a Greenwhich Village folk musician,

a masterful soundtrack,

a cat,

early sixties,

New York,

bohemians,

smoky coffee houses,

a bit of a loser,

of,

though talented artist.

Hits so many of my chords,

it ain’t even funny

🙂

Even the poster which,

looks,

like a Bob Dylan,

album cover,

yep,

this film is for me-

and mom,

really likes,

the Coen brothers,

big time.

Both of us should be happy,

with this one.

A quiet new year’s day,

allows me to reflect,

on the past year,

and,

look forward to the new.

It’s been a year,

of changes,

and,

challenges,

and,

disappointments,

a year of questions.

Perhaps,

the new,

one,

will be one of,

answers.

I hope so,

for me,

for all of us.

Enjoy your new year,

whatever,

you may be doing

🙂

all the best to you and yours,

and,

I say,

Bring it on!!

😛

later girls,

BB
