Cheating, schmeating

It’s another beautiful day,

golden, glorious,

walking to work,

was a joyous experience,

more for the walk,

than the going to work.

🙂

The papers,

sportspages,

and,

headlines,

are full of,

Lance Armstrong,

no hockey,

gotta talk about something:-P

I’m struck by,

the level of hyprocrisy,

surrounding,

the taking away of Armstrongs,

numerous titles,

and,

record seven Tour De France(s) wins.

Let me start by telling you all,

I`m not fond of Armstrong,

I think he is an,

arrogant, cocky man,

so,

this isn’t,

blind hero worship.

Lance Armstrong,

put cycling on the map,

for regular, everyday,

North American,

schlubs,

love him,

hate him,

fact is:

you know him.

He made a lot of money,

for cycling,

and,

the Nikes,

of the world,

a lot.

Yeah, he made lots of money,

for himself as well.

His Live Strong foundation,

gave comfort to many,

cancer sufferers,

as well as,

heightening,

awareness.

These are facts.

The cycling world,

has been plagued,

by,

cheating and dopping,

scandals,

for decades,

the fact that others,

cheated,

in no way justifies,

his or any other cheating,

but,

I keep asking myself,

this one thing,

if they all use,

‘performance enhancing’ techniques,

doesn’t that,

‘level the playing field’ ?

I think,

it might.

In a world of savage capitalism,

of politically motivated sports governing bodies.

Are the athletes who will do anything to win,

really the bad guys?

Lance Armstrong,

won those races,

many of which were epic battles,

strangely enough,

there will be no ‘winner’

for most of those Tour De France wins,

why?

perhaps, because the ‘runner ups’,

were ‘guilty’

of the same infractions?

I don’t feel sorry,

for Armstrong,

but,

I deplore the hypocrisy.

My two cents,

not necessarily nuanced,

but,

hey.

So what do you think?

Do you care?

Sad reflection on our times?

or,

just a more mediatised version,

of the way things are?

Some people compete,

for the love of sport,

personal goals,

some for winning and glory.

People flock to winners,

and,

flee losers,

so what does that say about,

people in general?

No easy or simple answers,

and,

a veritable,

smorgasbord of thought.

wink.

Later girls,

BB

  1. I agree about the hypocrisy. There will be no winners for those 7 races because 20 of the 21 top 3 finishers in the races have been found guilty of doping. Cycling is clearly a dirty sport.

I don’t mind them vacating his titles. I do mind the head of cycling saying “There’s no place in this sport for men like Lance Armstrong” (or something like that). Clearly the sport is full of men like Lance – dopers.

  2. Exactly, full of dopers, so why say things like that. What he should have said if that is what they mean
to do, is, ‘we are going to clean up cycling’. What he said really illustrates the hyprocrisy, it’s ok to cheat
just don’t get caught!! Infuriating on so many levels.

  3. I wonder what would happen if they just went the other way and abandoned checking for doping. Wouldn’t that ‘level’ the playing field? And Lance would still be the best among ‘equals’. Just a thought.

  4. I think it would. I also think what constitutes cheating has become very much a grey zone and I’m not sure the international sports organization really know how to react. I think all this doping is very dangerous health wise but, these men are adults, so many questions, so much food for thought, still…I can’t stand the hypocrisy behind all this, love him or not, Lance Armstrong kicked everybody else’s butt. Thanks for more food for thought:-)
