FDR? Yep, he knew

Contrary to what,

the title of this post,

might,

lead you to believe,

this post,

is neither about,

politics,

nor about history,

no,

this post,

is about fear.

FDR, perhaps the greatest of American Presidents,

said this,

during one of his many inaugural adresses,

he was elected four times

the quote is as follows:

We Have Nothing To Fear but, Fear itself!

This week,

I came face to face,

with,

one of my biggest fears,

going to the dentist.

Now,

I like to think of myself,

as a rational butch,

yes,

emotional,

but,

as a rule,

neither my emotions,

nor my hormones,

rule over my reason,

I say as a rule,

because,

the fear of the dentist,

which has been with me,

for a couple of decades,

a result, of a nightmarish set of circumstances when I had my wisdom teeth extracted, in my twenties.

since then I have avoided,

the dentist,

ridiculous and painful.

This week,

after six months of pain and discomfort,

I had two loose teeth extracted,

it took all of thirty minutes,

they couldn’t be saved,

not enough bone,

holding them,

the cure wasn’t even close to as,

painful,

as the condition.

I knew it wouldn’t be,

rationally,

I knew this,

in my mind,

but,

the fear and phobia,

the lilly livered part of me,

kept me from going.

Kind of like,

the ‘maybe everything will work out attitude’

kept me hanging on,

to the bookstore.

The tooth incident this week,

made me think,

my man Franklin,

was right,

we must rise above our fears.

Sure, sometimes fear is,

smart,

healthy,

the ole fight or flight thing,

but,

mostly,

fear paralyses us,

into inaction,

inertia,

even,

we must,

well,

I,

must rise above.

Later girls,

BB

I am a bookish butch in my mid early fifties. I live in Montréal and always have. I used to run a small used bookstore. Reading keeps me sane. My latest jiggie is photography, book project in the works, living the dream

  1. Funny, when I first read the title I thought you meant he knew about Eleanor’s way with the ladies…
Good on you for rising above!

  2. That is an interesting story, Eleanor and her butch, wonderful woman, Mrs Roosevelt. I think they both had a way with the ladies:-) Thanks, for the encouragement, trying to be brave and not cowardly.
