I know you, or do I?

It’s a grey day,

but,

also kind of,

nice.

I’m struck,

by how quickly,

we become,

addicted,

to our Internet access.

The ability,

the necessity,

to check things,

any time,

all the time.

It’s  only,

been,

a few years,

and,

now I’m finding it,

debilatating,

to be,

without.

Aside from the blog,

which,

quite honestly,

has become,

an important outlet,

for ideas,

venting,

sharing,

there are people,

I only communicate with,

via e-mail,

and in spite,

of the fact,

that I can go to the cafe,

and,

send emails,

write the blog,

I feel as if,

my spotaneity,

and,

creative juices,

have somehow,

been impinged upon,

stiffled.

Maybe,

I need the silence,

that comes,

with writting,

late at night,

or,

early in the morning,

maybe,

I need to write in,

my boxer shorts,

to really,

feel free,

who knew!!

I’ve been reading,

very slowly,

a number of things,

a Quebecois author,

Jacques Poulin,

wonderful,

slow,

and,

layered.

I’ve also gotten,

another,

Anne Lamott,

another one of her non-fiction books,

reflections on life,

and,

on faith.

I find I enjoy,

her style,

her thought process,

her ability,

to not,

take herself seriously,

without,

justifying her behaviour,

or putting herself down.

The mark of,

a mature writer,

a mature woman,

funny,

touching,

a joy,

someone you’d like,

to have,

a conversation,

a dialogue,

with.

Mind you,

reading a book,

is a conversation,

a dialogue,

with the writer.

Having a blog,

that you write,

several times,

a week,

is a lot,

like that,

for me.

I talk to,

and,

with,

my readers.

I don’t know,

who,

most of you,

are,

and yet,

I do,

weird,

and,

hard to explain.

Not sure,

I’m explaining it very well:-)

So, that’s what,

I’ve been thinking,

reflecting on,

how much,

I miss conversing,

with people,

who,

I don’t really,

Know.

Later girls,

BB

  1. Who really knows anyone these days? Are YOU the daughter you present to your mother at a Sunday dinner ? Are YOU the lover your girlfriend snuggles with at night ? Are YOU the helpful colleague you present to a coworker ? Do YOU know the YOU in YOU ? Does anyone know YOU?

  2. Good point, we do present different aspects of ourselves to different people. I have found in the last few years, that I have less of a compulsion to please, I am who I am, well, I think I am…(wink)

  3. A reader suggested that I read your blog and all I can say is that anyone who likes Lamott is okay by me…

Her books have saved me more than once.

  4. BB: First, let me get past the image what are quite possibly, way too cute boxers 😉 to get to my second point: what a lovely post. There is something about blogging that seems to create some virtual connective tissue. It’s really quite something.

With that out of the way that brings me to my third point: your talk of books over the past two months, and your lists, made me ponder for a while if I am up for making a list of books I want to read. I am not that disciplined in my fiction reading, but am still contemplating the notion; however, I have had this nagging question lately: is there a female equivalent of Shakespeare?? (Not a playwright so much as a prolific and profound and inventive storyteller of the human condition who plays with the language, and invents new words, and pokes fun at everything and everyone?) Or Dante? (Although the very first writer storyteller was a Sumerian princess….so I guess that counts..)

I cannot think of one :-(.

Which brings me to my next point: can you put a button on your sight that allows for email subscription? puh-leeeeeeze?

Lamott’s quiet writing is wonderful. I like Anne Tyler too.

  5. Not your sight: that would just get in the way. SITE, as in your blog. 🙂
A subscribe to your site by email, please and thank you with cute women on top?
(or however you like them placed….)

    Please forgive the keying/sloppiness.

  6. ’tis true, my boxers are CUTE. I don’t think there is a female Shakespeare, but, one writer who has brought me great satisfaction is Jane Austen and Colette is wonderful for descriptionsof the ‘natural world’. As far as contemprary writers go, one who I am always willing to follow on even the strangest of trips, is Jeannette Winterson, she rocks. Thanks for the kind words, you are TOO KIND:-)

  7. A kid can only try —

Are you using wordpress? If so, this is how I think it’s done. First: Wear cute boxers. Next: go to the Appearance section and click on widgets. Hunt down the one called Follow blog: Email subscription. Once you’ve got it, drag it over to the right of your screen (at least it’s to the right on a MAC) to place in one of the widget areas. You’ll have primary or secondary. Any one will do :-). SAVE it. Then close it.

If it is NOT wordpress…. you can still wear your cute boxers, but I haven’t a clue.

Colette is good. I also like Anais Nin. I confess… Austen is good, but only when read out loud. Winterson is very, very interesting. I am thinking of revisiting Atwood.

  8. I was without a computer for a few weeks as well and wow, yes, I realized how addicted I am. It’s hard to break it though isn’t it?

  9. So BB, your boxers…uhmm maybe you could post a picture…you know, just so that I can be sure that yours Are the cutest of all;-)…

Also, you don’t have internet access at home? Or maybe I misread…?
