Reading books, makes you better.

There are many ways,

that reading,

and books,

make you,

better.

They make you,

feel,

better,

they can provide,

escape,

laughter,

a balm,

on an aching heart.

They make you,

better,

smarter,

they are a means,

of knowledge acquisition,

about,

places,

history,

pracical things.

How to repair a bike,

how to cook a chicken,

how to give pleasure,

how to defend yourself,

how to boot your immune system,

how to polish your boots.

Books,

can compensate,

for the mentors,

you never had.

But,

mostly,

I think,

books,

make you a better,

person.

Learning about the world,

past and present,

‘seeing’ the world,

through the eyes of others,

be they real or fictional,

expands,

your emotional horizons,

takes you out of your,

‘normal’ world,

world view,

comfort zone,

puts,

you in contact,

with people very different,

from yourself,

all over the world,

throughout history,

and in galaxies,

far, far away.

Understanding,

compassion,

empathy,

and ultimately,

‘discovering’,

that people are,

more similar,

than different:-)

That’s how I see,

Have a great day:-)

Reading Is Sexy

I’ve always thought so.

I found this image on bookshelfporn.com,

I’ve mentioned them before,

a veritable cornucopia of book shots,

 for the bookishly inclined.

Reading is sexy,

 readers are sexy,

 and writers are really sexy.

Although,

if you hung out in my bookstore some afternoons,

you could say readers are,

psycho or strange or socially retarded,

whatever,

Reading is sexy.

The act itself is sexy,

the intimate communication between two minds,

the writer’s and the reader’s,

the tactile aspect,

the feel of the book,

 the smell of it,

the weight of it,

no doubt,

sexy.

The acquisition of knowledge,

exciting, enlightening and sexy.

Remember that teacher,

you know which one,

for me,

it was the smell of Opium by St-Laurent,

firm breasts in a tight sweater and,

the reading of Macbeth out loud.

Be still my heart.

Maybe for you it was a shop teacher,

a History professor.

makes no difference,

whatever floats your boat,

fact is,

 it stems from reading.

A librarian looks at you over her glasses,

a writer gazes at you,

with impossibly deep dark eyes.

Yeah, Baby!

You read?

The whole world is at your disposal, fingertips,

and that my friends is,

 sexy,

in every sense of the word.

Philosophy, Waters style

I have a cold and it was the full moon and I’m mucho hormonal.
Plus it’s been cold.
All in all, Not a great weekend.
On the plus side,
The Habs beat the Maple Leafs 2-0 on Saturday,
and the Alouettes are Grey Cup bound.
The Grey Cup,
in case anyone is interested,
is the Canadian equivalent of the Superbowl
and this year will be the 98 Th,
so not a new thing on our Canadian landscape.
I wanted to share with you all a quote I came across on Bookshelf Porn.
If any of you are not familiar with Bookshelf Porn,
you should be,
 you will love it.
Beautiful pictures of books and or bookshelves.
Mind Blowing.
So without further ado the quote:
We need to make books cool again. If you go home with somebody and they don’t have books, don’t fuck them.

– John Waters

Rarely have I found a quote to be truer or more provocatively put.

I realise I may be preaching to the choir here,

because who but bookish types would read this blog, anyway.

A while back,

I wrote a blog post about,

how kindness may be more important to me than a physical attraction,

excerpt:

So, here’s where I feel like a Martian,

to me physical attraction grows with how

smart, interesting and kind a person is.

Obviously, there can be no repugnance factor, but,

really it grows.

Maybe what I meant to say is,

 no books, no chance.

There could be exceptions,

a pile of New Yorkers with a library card on top,

that would work.

A bookshelf filled with the complete works of  Dr. Phil,

would on the other hand,

work as well as a room full of taxidermy.

I am not a snob,

I could deal with a Danielle Steele and a few Star Trek novels,

after all,

I have been known to read romance novels

 and occasionally,

Cosmo,

I read it for the pictures.

But, like my man Waters,

no books, no nooky.

I love succinctness.

But, it could be the fever.
