It has been,
and continues to be,
a beautiful,
sunny weekend,
here in Montreal.
Yesterday,
was a social day,
of friends and politics,
and,
culture,
a terrific day.
Started off Saturday,
the ex came over for dinner,
with her mom,
and her new girl,
actually,
it’s been a while,
not sure,
I should refer to her as new,
maybe just,
her girl:-)
Anyway,
we had a nice time,
mom sprung for some nice,
Chinese food,
we had some wine,
some nice conversation,
ex’s mom and I had a heated,
political debate,
as is our habit,
I’m a bleeding heart liberal,
she’s a tad hawkish,
whatever,
we respect each other’s opinions,
but,
we do,
debate.
Sunday,
my friend Francoys,
the anarchist and I,
went to the Anarchist Book Fair,
held in a community center,
in south west Montreal,
the Little Burgundy neighbourhood,
to be exact.
This is a working class neigbourhood,
and,
in the last few years,
it has undergone,
much gentrification,
building of condos by the hundreds,
near the Atwater Market.
You gotta wonder,
where do all the other people go,
when the yuppie bourgeois types,
take over a neighbourhood,?
It’s a legitimate question,
and,
a legitimate concern.
The Book Fair,
was a get together,
of anarchists,
queers,
feminists,
the politically active,
disenfranchised,
if you will.
A celebration,
of activism,
reaching for freedom,
vegan,
dog loving,
youth,
it was a hoot!!
Francoys and I,
had a wonderful time,
bought some books,
some buttons,
had some fantastic coffee,
for fifty cents!!!!,
watched the ‘kids’
in the park with their dogs,
I felt very welcomed,
and I got some great stuff.
I bought Emma Goldman’s,
Living My Life,
her autobiography in two volumes,
a Wallace Stegner novel,
on Joe Hill,
a labour movement martyr,
a butch zine,
a hilarious book on New Escapeologists.
My favourite find of the day,
was an Artists cooperative,
justseeds.org.
Their mission,
is to have artists,
submit,
and,
create,
posters and prints,
of little known,
or,
more like,
little talked about,
under represented ,
events in history,
from,
the great strikes,
to,
Stonewall,
from,
Sacco And Vanzetti,
to Los Madres of Maya.
They are beautiful,
personal interpretations,
and,
dirt cheap,
profit obviously isn’t the objective:-)
I bought a lovely Stonewall poster,
couldn’t be happier.
After,
all that,
Francoys and I went to see,
a photo exhibit,
local photographer,
customer of mine,
kind of a friend,
actually,
mom met up with us,
at the cafe,
and bought a print,
for our newly painted,
kitchen,
it rocks,
juxtaposition,
of urban and nature,
very nice.
So that’s been my weekend,
so far.
I got tell you the new haircut,
really fit in with Anarchists,
and,
maybe,
I’m imagining it,
but,
I got a few more smiles than usual,
mind it was a very gay friendly,
atmosphere.
More social today.
More about the books,
I bought another time.
If you’re in Canada,
enjoy,
what’s left of the long weekend:-)
Later girls,
