To Space or not to Space

Good morning.
It’s a grey day,
very grey,
weirdly enough,
I’m feeling optimistic,
and,
my mood is good,
very good.

After a Soap opera,
of a time,
with my blog.
It’s back.
butchy jig:
🙂

I couldn’t be happier!

A lot of people,
out there,
with too much,
time on their hands,
but, hey,
let’s not dwell,
on the crap.

Being blogless,
for several days,
has given me,
time to think,
make that,
more time,
to think:-)

Also,
I’ve been doing,
some reading,
which I’ll,
talk about,
over the next couple,
of days.

But,
this morning,
before work,
I wanted to ask,
you all,
something.

Those of you,
who read,
Bookish Butch,
know,
that I punctuate,
strangely,
also,
that I leave,
lots of space,
between,
words,
thoughts,
and,
that,
to read,
BB,
you got scroll,
and,
scroll,
and scroll,
some more.
What started as,
well,
ineptitude:-)
and,
lack of techno savvy,
became,
a style,
more than a few,
of my ‘readers’
have told me,
they liked it,
the breaks,
the spaces,
it became,
second nature,
to me.

Yesterday,
a good friend,
of mine,
asked me,
why all the spacing?
You do know,
it doesn’t have to,
be that way,
right?

As a matter of fact,
I do,
but,
I’ve grown,
accustomed,
to my,
inept,
style,
I’ve grown,
accustomed,
to it’s,
face.
I like it:-)

I was struck,
by,
the fact,
that,
this friend,
is male.
Every Time,
someone brings,
the fact up,
male.

Any significance to that?
I wonder?
Do women,
prefer,
cadence,
and,
men,
prefer,
order?

I don”t know.
I’ve been ordered,
this morning,
I doubt,
it will last,
I’ll revert,
but,
I wanted to know,
what do you prefer?
Do you care?
Does it bother you?
Tell me,
BB,
wants to know.

Later girls,

BB.

  1. I am going to mangle a quote by a woman writer who said something to the effect tht painters have paint, carpenters have wood. Writers have punctuation and grammar and commas and dashes and line breaks to create a voice and a persona.

Then there’s Gertrude Stein who believed that too much got in the way of the experience of writing… and experimented endlessly with it — grammar, punctuation, words.

A style that is yours, that reflects you or at least the you who you want to be on the page is what matters most. The thing about a blog is that you can play around with it, see what feels right to you because readers will know when your writing doesn’t feel right to you.

It would be easy to say that men prefer order in a way that women do not (and there’s some research on that but I suppose the researchers never met a woman who’s a Virgo (for those who believe in astrology.) but who knows. Maybe he was just curious or doesn’t like scrolling.

  2. I like your style…the cadence….it gives you voice.

Housekeeping: “I’ve grown, accustomed, to it’s, face.” —Its not It’s–

Sorry, as much as I try, often I just can’t help myself!
