First book of the year:-)

Hello you all.

Hope your year,

has gotten off,

to a good start:-)

2013 was a slow reading year,

I read many less books,

than is my habit,

but,

that’s OK,

what I read,

I think I savoured,

more.

I had concentration issues,

for a long time,

couldn’t keep my mind,

on books,

they weren’t,

‘taking me away’,

some seemed like,

work,

but,

I think mostly,

subconsciously at least,

it was sad,

for me,

to read books,

and,

not discuss them,

with customers and such,

so I let myself be diverted,

by other,

sources-

face book, tumblr, pinterest, they have their charms, you know:-)

and of course,

I read,

blogs and articles,

and,

magazines and newspapers,

you get the picture,

right?

Just,

not,

too many books.

As a result,

I have a ton of books,

waiting to be read,

and,

quite a few,

that have been started.

But, on Thursday last,

January 2 ND,

I picked up,

a book,

and,

in two days,

I had finished it,

I loved it,

it was just what,

my butch,

bookish,

heart,

needed.

My sweetheart sent it to me,

for Christmas,

and,

she knows me well,

a smashing choice.

The name of the book is,

Cha-Ching!,

it was published in 2013,

and it by Ali Liebegott.

I had vaguely heard,

of this book,

but,

I hadn’t really stopped,

to investigate,

again, I’m glad my girl, did:-)

It is the story of Theo,

a working class butch,

with issues,

and addictions,

and,

a,

not bright or promising future.

Theo decides to move,

to New York,

from San Francisco,

and,

start anew,

some days go well,

some,

not so much.

Theo is a good person,

with flaws,

but,

mostly,

a good heart,

she makes bad decisions,

mostly because she is a bit,

of dreamer and in spite of,

having no real reason,

to be so,

an optimist.

You root for her,

you associate with her,

you want things,

to go right for her.

I don’t want to,

give any of the plot away,

I purposely,

didn’t read any reviews,

because I didn’t want to know

🙂

It is worth the read,

and,

the discovery.

If you are looking for a novel,

about the not often depicted butch,

the poor, working class butch even less,

or just a well written,

honest portrayal,

of life in cities,

when you work,

in convenience stores,

or data entry jobs,

when you aren’t rich,

or comely,

but,

you are smart and have dreams.

Read this book,

it is romantic and joyful,

in little bits,

like life,

in little bits.

It is a good strong read,

literary,

not symbolic or hoity toity,

about people,

real people,

some of whom are nice,

some of whom are kind of shitty,

shades of grey.

To my mind,

and,

at this point in my life,

an amazing read.

I couldn’t recommend it more,

made me feel,

good about reading,

made me feel less,

lonely,

made me feel as if butches,

have voices too.

Thank you,

Theo,

thank you,

Ali,

and thank you,

sweetie,

for being butch,

for writing butch,

for loving butch.

Later girls,

BB

p.s you don’t have to be butch to like and get this book, you just have to hope and dream and have felt down of your luck, sometimes

It’s snowing…. books

It’s snowing,

again,

grrr,

oh well,

’tis the season,

and we wouldn’t want,

to not,

have a white Christmas,

would we,

???

oh well,

it’s perty,

that’s something,

right?

Good time,

to read,

and,

I have tons,

of good things,

to read,

some light stuff,

some deep stuff,

and,

some original,

and,

new…ish stuff.

I have been reading,

a surprising book,

it’s called,

The Couch Sessions,

by Jeff O’Brien.

I met Jeff when he walked,

into my bookstore,

a sweet and personable guy,

local,

told me he had written,

a book,

and,

when it was published,

would I agree to sell and display it,

in my bookstore.

He needed to get it,

copy edited,

and published,

and,

by the time,

it was done,

these things take time, never good to rush something that isn’t ready, it’s a book not a blog:-)

I had closed the bookstore.

I got a copy from Jeff,

a few weeks ago.

I expected it to be,

funny,

Jeff was a stand up comic for quite a while

what I didn’t expect,

well,

it is a truly original voice.

A voice of his generation,

I think,

very different from mine.

Full of despair and yet,

love and kindness,

a voice,

very individualistic,

and,

yet,

caring about the world,

we all share.

I like it,

a lot,

very interesting turns of phrase.

I’ve never read anything like it.

I haven’t read much,

of it,

bit of a reader’s block,

lately,

but,

what I have read,

leads me to believe it’s worth,

my time and that it will,

leave behind,

many thoughts,

and,

images.

I don’t think anyone ends their life without thought; it could look that way from afar, but a ledge begs reflection. We never question someone’s happiness, but we are too quick to question the sincerity of someone’s sadness. Why is that?

It’s sad when the reason for taking our lives gets lost in ignorant translation. It’s sad when the opinion of others become the gospel on our legacy….

Yep, interesting turn of phrase.

I’ll give a full review when I finish,

and,

I’ll give the info on acquisition,

in case any of you,

would like to encourage,

a new voice.

I also received two review copies,

of new lesbian fiction,

as Walter Matthau said in Grumpy Old Men, ‘hmm, yummy, lesbians'( WINK)

and this morning,

the mailman brought a surprise,

a book,

from Amazon,

from my girl (thump, thump goes my heart)

it is the latest Ali Liebegott,

Cha-Ching,

looks amazing.

So as I stated at the first,

it’s snowing books

🙂

Hope it’s doing the same,

at your house.

Be well
