Been a long hard week,
weather’s grey,
Habs lost two in a row,
they played hard,
it’s early in the season,
still…
tough week,
November blues.
Tonight,
I was thinking,
it will be Christmas soon,
reminds me of,
that,
Joni Mitchell song,
River.
It’s coming on Christmas, I wish I had a river I could skate away on
We have some amazing,
Canadian songwriters,
Mitchell, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen,
but,
one of my all time favourites,
is,
Gordon Lightfoot.
Currently playing,
on much top 40 radio,
is a song titled,
If You Could read My Mind,
that’s a Lighfoot song,
from 1974,
I remember that song very well,
lovely,
sad,
heartfelt.
Lightfoot also wrote,
Early Morning Rain,
which most people think,
is a Bob Dylan song,
and,
For Lovin’ Me.
Johnny Cash,
Elvis,
Peter, Paul and Mary,
so many others,
recorded Gordon’s songs.
I remember sitting,
on the living room rug,
shag rug,
of course:-)
I was 8,9,10,
listening,
to Black Day In July,
a song about race riots,
in Detroit,
I didn’t know it at the time,
or later,
The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald,
he had a way with words,
Gordy did,
make you think,
make you cry,
make you long for,
something,
you didn’t even,
have to know,
what.
Did She Mention My Name?
I remember in the 80’s,
singing along,
to You Can’t Hurry Love,
by Phil Collins,
and my father saying,
with,
no little amount of,
smugness,
and,
disdain,
no one could do smug,
and disdain like the ole man!
‘that’s a remake’,
and,
I thought he was,
old and cranky,
now,
I realise,
he knew,
the original,
was better,
not always,
but,
in that case,
honestly, what isn’t better than Phil Collins?
I feel the same way,
about Lightfoot’s original,
now.
You know,
I wish I could tell,
my ole man,
‘I know how you feel, dad’:-)
My father was an original,
I miss him.
Later girls,
