Rainy day,
looks like that’s what it,
will be,
all day.
Give me a chance to test,
my new jacket,
and,
probably get a lot,
of reading done:-)
I’ve been searching for,
an in between sort of,
jacket,
something I can wear,
from October,
into deep freeze time,
not easy,
you have to find something,
you like,
can layer,
can you believe it’s taken me all these years, and, a lot of help from friends brighter than me, to see the light, layers my friends, layers, that is the key to warmth:-)
also,
you need something,
that won’t break the bank,
and,
the bank of ,
used books bookseller,
isn’t very rich:-)
Enter,
Land’s End,
I’ve shopped Land’s End,
for a long time,
lots of options,
not the same quality as,
L.L. Bean and such,
but,
honest and decent,
classic American sportswear,
(in large sizes, tall sizes and petite sizes)
for all sizes.
My winter parka,
is Land’s End,
cheap, plain,
no doubt,
the best deal to be had.
I like their oxford cloths,
their dressier shirts,
for sweaters, flannel,
Bean is better.
The coat I picked up,
is a quilted number,
not too thick,
black,
with a corduroy collar,
regular price was more,
than reasonable,
$65.00,
but,
on sale,
free shipping,
received in three days?
$24.99!!!
At that price,
I call it pretty darn near,
perfect:-)
Nice, eh?
In a similar,
sartorial vein,
I’ve become,
enamored,
on the recent(sort of)
trend in men’s accessories,
woven and or leather,
bracelets,
the prices for some of these,
things,
is outrageous,
so,
I’ve decided,
I’m going to make my own,
I need a hobby,
for the winter,
not looking good for hockey, after all(:,
so,
why not transform,
some of my old belts,
that have become,
too big etc.,
into some cool,
butch accessories,
who knows,
maybe,
I have a future,
as a creator,
after all
(tongue firmly planted in cheek)
It’s fun,
messing with style,
shopping for options,
trying to stretch your dollar,
as you stretch,
your style muscles.
I worry,
about buying thrift store stuff,
don’t want to bring beasties,
home,
I know it’s sort of irrational,
still…
What are your tricks?
Feel free to share,
how you maintain,
style,
whatever that means for you,
on budget.
Well,
I’m off to test the coat.
Have a good one,
you all.
Later girls,
BB
Nice coat!
Thanks:-)
This is my jacket of choice: http://www.patagonia.com/us/product/mens-nano-puff-pullover?p=84020-0-340
Not really a budget item – unless you find one used on ebay like I did. (That’s actually my fashion/budget trick). My jacket is not nearly as fashionable as yours – it is lightweight & warm – especially when you’re moving about out there in the world.
I guess I’m not as worried about used clothing – although I do wash everything first.
I’ve heard and read really good things about those Pantagonia jackets and I might get one next year,
this year I wanted smething cheap. I think it’s really cute and plenty fashionable:-) For the rainy season I’m thinking one of those Barbour waxed cotton things, that I might look at buying used on ebay because new they run in the $500-$600 range, but, apparently they last for decades, also ensures you maintain your weight:-)
My new jacket is nice and plain, black. What colour is your Pantagonia? Just curious, that’s me hopelessly
curious:-P
I actually have not one but TWO of those jackets. One in a gold color that I’m wearing out while working. When the dogs have jumped all over me saying hello they’ve torn some shreds into it. It was my first one – and I love it so. Last year at the end of the season I got a bright orange one. That’s my “good” jacket – and my back-up for when my favorite gold one becomes too ragged for anything but yard work.
I like the idea of a waxed Barbour coat. So much of my outerwear is painfully practical (goretex). I even have rain pants. :/ Occasionally we’re wanting to go out somewhere “nicer” at night and I realize all I’ve got to put on is this rugged athletic outdoors-y type stuff.
The barbour would cover both sporty outdoorsy and semi-dressy, I think, of course my butch idea of dressy isn’t everyone’s:-)
