What a day:-)
Congratulations the U.S. women’s soccer team.
as expected,
Gold.
But, you will forgive me,
if the story that resonated most,
with me and my compatriots,
today,
was a bronze medal,
We are so proud:-)
First team medal in a traditional team sport for Canada since 1936 in Berlin, where the men took silver in Basketball, we win medals, just not so much in traditional team sports, we’re also talking Summer Olympics, here:-)
The Canadian women,
beat the French national team,
to take the bronze,
it took everything they had,
the French were tough,
they kept coming,
and the Canadians kept stopping them,
they were very tired,
after the gruelling tournament,
they’ve been through,
the emotional letdown,
of their heartbreak loss,
to the Americans,
and possible sanctions,
by those clowns at FIFA,
for daring to criticise,
the ref.
They were distraught,
they were entitled,
to that,
to their anger.
Anyway,
they played hard,
not pretty,
tired women,
thank goodness,
for the French’s inability,
to connect with the net,
good luck,
and Erin Macleod’s,
stellar goal keeping,
the defense,
saved us,
kept us in,
and then at 91:49,
Diana Matheson,
all five foot zero of her:-)
found herself on the receiving end,
of a beautiful pass,
by Sophie Schmidt,
and she put it in the net,
1-0 Canada,
game over,
bronze medal.
They have persevered,
believed in themselves,
they have made us believers,
never give up,
not ’til the last second.
Next year,
the women’s world cup,
will be in Canada,
and,
I will be watching,
these women have made,
this hockey lovin’ butch,
a soccer fan,
thank you girls,
for never giving up.
🙂
Later girls,
BB
A fantastic match! Well deserved win to the Canadian women! Really, “those clowns at FIFA” is the truth… there should have been questions asked about the refereeing during the match against the US. And during the US/Japan match as well. It tarnishes the medal if it is won by anything other than fair play.
However, the next World Cup won’t be until 2015 (I think). It’s every four years. But, that gives us plenty of time to watch our girls play…
Cheers,
e
Oops, sorry yeah 2015, since the team won the bronze they keep showing this commercial for the World Cup so I mistakenly thought it was next year:-) FIFA needs to look at it’s officiating instead of picking on emotionally distraught athletes. I think the Americans are a really good team, they don’t need help and it does take away some of the shine.
