Lucinda

Another cloudy,

grey day,

oh well,

at least it’s cool.

Hockey tonight,

Go Canucks Go.

I’m rooting for,

the Canucks,

out of patriotic loyalty,

not quite the same as patriotism, in my mind.

But, I’m not crazy,

about them,

a bit of a chippy team,

but,

no self respecting,

Habs fan can,

want Boston to win,

they are,

our sworn enemies,

division rivals,

I just can’t!

But, I respect them.

I have a chapter left,

in the Ivan Coyote.

This morning,

I have been,

listening to music,

Lucinda Williams,

love her.

Sort of Country steel rock,

the tough broad,

with the sensitive heart,

Williams,

writes,

the kind of songs,

I’d like to write.

Strength and twang,

I discovered her,

about ten years ago,

a voice,

that sneaks up,

your back,

and licks,

your neck.

Oh yeah,

Raw and righteous,

Rock and roll,

rockabilly,

blues,

beer,

cigarettes,

late nights,

dancing,

and hot sex,

but,

also,

tender mornings,

holding her tight,

and sharing,

coffee,

and a plate,

of eggs.

Her music,

is not romantic,

it’s real love,

which is what,

we all want,

nothing fancy,

a warm comfortable bed,

passionate kisses,

from the one you love,

but,

really what else is there? 🙂

Just rambling,

don’t mind me:-)

Discoveries

It was a grey,

cloudy day,

today,

quiet at the shop,

time to read,

I’m almost through,

Bow Grip,

by Ivan E. Coyote,

great name, don’t you think?

I like this writer,

and I don’t understand,

how come,

I’m just discovering her,

now,

oh well,

isn’t that how it is,

with books,

with life,

you keep wondering,

how come,

I’ve never seen this,

I’ve never read that,

I’ve never been there,

I’ve never felt this way,

before,

a journey,

that’s what it is,

and if it wasn’t filled,

with discoveries,

with adventures,

with pitfalls,

and the occasional,

mudslide,

to go with,

the sunshine,

and,

rainbows,

it would be boring,

and boredom is not,

an acceptable option,

for the curious,

of mind,

I guess,

well,

I’m off to read,

I’ll tell you what,

I think of the book,

tomorrow,

most likely,

Drag King Dreams

Yesterday,

being so bloody,

hot,

and the,

air conditioning,

at the bookstore,

not really,

working,

I wasn’t very busy,

but,

you know,

enough.

I finished,

Leslie Feinberg’s,

Drag King Dreams.

I was going to,

write about it,

last night,

but,

I had to let it,

marinate,

seep in.

Anyone,

who has read,

this blog,

more than,

once,

knows,

I have much,

respect,

and,

admiration,

for Feinberg.

Hir life,

hir struggle,

hir politics,

and most,

of all,

for hir work.

Transgender Warriors,

is an important,

contribution,

to furthering,

our collective,

understanding,

of,

transgender,

and in fact,

the whole notion,

of gender.

Stone Butch Blues,

is a work,

of such power,

that it shook me to,

my core,

I hardly have,

words to express,

what a,

moving experience,

reading that book,

was,

for me.

So,

I very much,

wanted to like,

Drag King Dreams,

I didn’t expect ,

to like it as much,

Stone Butch,

the bar being,

as high,

as it is.

Well,

I have to say,

I’m glad I read it,

and I read it,

all of it,

but,

I am disapointed.

I didn’t hate it,

I woudn’t have,

finished it,

if that was the case,

but,

it left me,

wanting more,

or maybe less?

I know,

that’s a strange,

thing to write,

but,

that’s how I feel.

Some of the characters,

were fascinating,

and I wanted,

to know more,

and yet,

there are,

too many.

Some of,

the plot directions,

are very interesting,

and it seemed to me,

they could have been,

a novel in of themselves.

For instance,

Max and Ruby’s past activism,

Max’s growing up,

the relationship with hir Aunt Raisa,

before and after,

the death of hir mother.

The cyber connection,

she makes,

and what could,

come of that,

perhaps,

finally a love,

to call hir own.

So many threads,

not spun.

And yet,

I really liked,

Max,

hir sadness,

hir loneliness,

but,

also,

how she lives hir life,

with pride and honour,

principles.

They are all of them,

beautiful brave people.

I think,

too much was attempted,

in one novel,

maybe it’s the sophomore jinx,

how can you top,

a grand slam,

like,

Stone Butch Blues?

If you read one Feinberg,

let it be Stone Butch,

if you are interested,

in all hir work,

check this one out.

I don’t regret reading it,

for any number of reasons,

but,

I wish she had written,

a series instead.

I’d like to know,

what you girls think.

Later girls,

Happy birthday, Mom

Oh yeah,

it’s going to be,

hot,

and humid,

situation normal,

here in Montreal,

my shoulder is,

twitching,

as we speak.

Old war injury, don’t ya know:-)

Just going to,

say,

briefly,

Vancouver got,

their butts kicked,

last night!!

Not always easy, the life of a hockey fan:-)

Today is,

my Mom’s birthday,

she turns, 71.

She’s not thrilled.

But, I am,

not about her age,

but,

about the fact,

that I,

have her around,

still.

Not everyone,

has that privilege,

and not everyone,

has such a living,

breathing,

relationship,

with their mother’s,

as I do.

But,

she’s not my friend,

she’s still,

my mother,

and she loves,

and,

supports me.

Always,

made me feel,

special and unique,

even when,

I was messin’ up.

She doesn’t,

approve,

or,

understand,

everything,

I do,

I’m sure,

we are so different,

but,

she doesn’t criticise,

or interefere,

much.

I’m lucky,

and,

I know it,

I wanted her,

and you girls,

to know it:-)

So, Happy Birthday Mom, many happy returns.

Later girls,

BB

Hockey, what else? It is June after all:-)

It’s hot,

very hot,

tonight,

game 4,

of the cup final,

let’s hope,

it’s better,

than the last,

game,

a humiliating,

embarrassing,

8-1 loss,

but,

hey,

it’s one game:-)

Just, to put all of us,

in the mood,

Stompin’ Tom Connors,

a weird Canadian singer

weird?? Canadian??.

The good ole hockey game

is the best game

you can name

and the best game

you can name

is the good ole

hockey game

Go Canucks Go!!!!!

The savage beast? Could it be confusion?

There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats.
Albert Schweitzer
Hello girls,

how are you?

I’ve missed all of you,
feels like I haven’t,
written in weeks,
of course,
that’s not true,
but,
it’s about perception,
and,
reception,
isn’t it?
I’ve been,
thinking about,
something,
I read,
in a salon.com,
article,
that a friend sent,
about how,
romance novels,
are for women,
what porn is for men,
an interesting argument,
to be sure,
but,
one thing,
I always find,
troubling,
in these,
sorts of discussions,
where does,
 the GLBTQ,
community,
fit in,
 to all this,
using heterosexual,
“normalcy” parameters,
is weird enough,
for heterosexuals,
who are by no means,
a simple, monolithic,
construct,
but,
if you add,
the rest of us,
Say, a bookish butch who loves dyke romance novels:-)
it really,
gets complicated,
so all this,
to say,
that article,
confused me,
and got me thinking,
so,
I couldn’t really write,
about it,
but,
now,
I sort of ,
have I guess:-)

so, being tired,

and confused,

and perhaps,

I admit,

slightly,

incoherent,

but,

in a pretty,

good mood,

I have taken,

the advice of,

Dr Schweitzer,

and,

am spending,

the day,

in the company,

of,

The Dude,

and some,

music,

because,

beasts and music,

really do,

soothe the savage beast,

🙂

Later girls,

BB

PS I’m reading Drag King Dreams, I’ll write about it, soon.

Updates on… not much

Another beautiful day,

a little less cool,

good.

Yesterday,

was kind of,

cold,

didn’t need,

the sunscreen:-)

My mom,

and aunt,

were kind enough,

to give me,

a few hours,

reprieve,

I sort of need it.

I had a bit,

of a nap,

some,

Greek yogurt,

a butch cannot live on caffeine alone, although…caffeine and Beer, might work!!

and,

I’m raring to go,

bring ’em on.

I haven’t been,

reading in the,

past few days,

too busy,

I know, heresy, always time to read, says the bookseller!!

I have read,

a few chapters,

of Annie Dillard’s,

The Writing Life,

not enough,

to really form,

an opinion,

yet.

She is,

an accomplished writer,

of this,

there is no doubt,

but,

I’m not sure,

she’s,

the right fit,

for me.

Butches,

are odd,

bookish ones,

odder.

Later girls,

BB

So far, so good:-)

Yesterday,

was very hot,

muggy,

but,

then came,

the wind,

to make it all,

bearable,

it was a,

terrific day,

at the sidewalk sale,

I hope I am not tempting fate by saying such things:-)

In the evening,

the Canucks,

beat the Bruins,

scored with,

twenty seconds to go!!

Now, that is Stanley Cup,

hockey,

Side note: very happy for the people of Winnipeg, who got their team back, next Québec:-)

The final will be,

hard fought,

Boston,

ain’t beat,

yet,

very strong team,

but,

my heart is,

with the Canucks.

The morning so far?

Glorious,

fingers crossed,

I need a new net book:-)

Just in case,

you were all worried,

because,

of my incessant,

whining,

all is well!

Later girls,

BB

Oh Joy, the sidewalk sale!!

It was a,

hot day,

in town,

Today.

We don’t really,

have Spring,

in Montreal,

we go from,

cold,

to,

rain,

to hot,

and,

humid,

to hotter,

and,

more,

humid,

back to,

rain,

and,

cold,

the seasons,

as we know,

them:-)

Or as a Taxi driver, once said to me, in referring to roads in the city, “In Montreal? Two seasons, Winter and construction” 🙂

So, this week,

is the,

sidewalk sale,

I’ve mentioned,

how fond,

I am of it?

Four days,

of,

loud music,

and,

people,

searching for bargains,

the kind of people,

who think,

I should be able,

to do better,

on $1.95 book!!

To be fair,

it’s also,

well,

sometimes,

fun,

You see,

some neighborhood,

people,

you haven’t seen,

in a while.

You see people,

who,

really shouldn’t be,

wearing spandex,

and tank tops.

Plus people,

drop in to commiserate,

they know I hate,

the sidewalk sale,

and they,

want to know,

how I’m managing.

This year,

it’s going to,

be great,

I know it,

rah, rah, rah.

Wanted all of you,

to know,

in case,

I don’t have time,

to write,

but,

I’ll try.

Later girls,

BB

Library visit, rambling and a blog you should read.

It’s not raining,

but,

if ,

the level,

of dampness,

in the air,

is any,

indicator,

it should start,

pretty soon,

AGAIN!!

Just so,

you don’t think,

I’m the only one,

who talks,

about,

rain,

and weather,

and to add,

a little bit,

of credence,

I feel a bad moon a risin’ I feel trouble in the air I know we’re in for nasty weather don’t come around tonight it’s bound to take your life there’s a bad moon on the risin’- Credence Clearwater Revival <wink, nudge, wink>

to my theory,

of Canadians,

being,

obsessed with,

the weather,

you should read this,

http://fcs2.wordpress.com/2011/05/27/love-stuff/,

of course,

it’s not only,

about the,

weather!!

It’s a lovely piece,

by,

a funny,

thoughtful,

writer,

who makes me,

think,

and makes me,

smile.

Do yourself a favour,

check it out:-)

This morning,

I had cabin fever,

so I headed for,

the library,

usually busy,

on a rainy Sunday,

but,

today was,

freebie day,

for the,

Montreal Museums,

so the hoards,

who usually,

invade,

the library,

were invading,

the museums:-)

I was right,

quiet at the library,

the metro?

woo hoo,

that was,

another story,

hot and humid,

crowded,

times like these, I think maybe the suburbs wouldn’t be so bad, usually lasts half a second:-)

I survived,

the trip,

and met up,

with my friend,

the tycoon,

we meet there,

once in a while,

and usually grab lunch.

I took out,

Annie Dillard’s book,

The Writing Life,

it came highly,

recommended,

and I got myself,

Ivan Coyote’s novel,

Bow Grip,

I really liked,

Close to Spiderman,

I like her perspective,

and wanted to,

I also have,

Drag King Dreams,

by Leslie Feinberg,

I’ve read,

only twenty pages,

or so,

I had a long hard week,

full of commitments,

so it didn’t leave,

much time for reading.

Next week,

is the dreaded sidewalk sale,

I hate it,

kind of like,

visiting the dentist,

and,

the gynecologist,

the same day:-)

This year,

I’m thinking positive,

I need a good week,

maybe drugs,

would help:-)

One thing is for sure,

coming home,

to a good book,

will help.
